If you've DM'd me asking for a call or help, this is how it works.
I get more requests than I can take. So I offer one thing: a paid, 25-minute, one-on-one session.
$225. 25 minutes. One topic you pick.
I'll explain how raises and film paperwork generally work, so you can map your own project against it.
I won't review your documents or advise on your deal. For that, you need your own attorney. I'll help you know what to ask.
— M.P. Rekola, NY-barred attorney
1Who it's for
For you if you're planning a raise of roughly $500K or more and want to understand the landscape before you spend real money on lawyers or approach investors.
Not for you if you want someone to review your contract or tell you what to do in your own deal. For that, hire your own attorney.
Raising under about $500K? The Vault, with self-serve templates and video walkthroughs, is probably the better fit.
2What we'll cover
Pick one focus per session when you book.
Raise-readiness framework
How indie raises generally work, what a PPM (Private Placement Memorandum) is for, and what most filmmakers have in place before talking to investors.
Chain-of-title walkthrough
The documents a clean chain of title usually includes, and where indie projects most often have gaps.
Deal-term explainer
What common terms like distribution fees or recoupment usually look like across the industry.
3What you get, and what you don't
You get
- 25 minutes, one on one, by video call
- A clear framework for your chosen topic
- A follow-up email with a recap and one next-step resource
This isn't
- A review of your contracts or documents
- Advice on your specific deal or situation
- Drafting, negotiating, or follow-up calls
- Legal advice, or an attorney-client relationship. Nothing said is confidential or privileged.
If you need someone to look at your deal, you need your own lawyer. I'll help you know what to ask them.
4How it works
- Watch the Executive Producer Scan and score your project (below)
- Open the booking form and book ($225)
- Paste your scan score into the form, with your short intake answers
- Sign the session release form, which confirms your slot
- Meet for 25 minutes
- Get your recap email
Please don't send documents. The session is educational and I won't review them.
5Price and the credit
$225 for 25 minutes.
Paid in full at booking. Your slot is confirmed only after you sign the session release form. No-shows forfeit the fee.
If you decide to have me draft your PPM within 30 days, the full $225 comes off that fee.
I only take two sessions a week. That's not a sales tactic. My working hours are limited, and I'd rather do a few of these well.
6Step one: watch the scan
Before you book, watch the 5-minute Executive Producer Scan. It shows us both where your project stands, so the 25 minutes go to what matters.
7Step two: score your project
Rate your current project on each of the nine areas like a traffic light. Green = 100% locked in (10 points). Yellow = somewhat there (5). Red = a complete mess (2).
Good Art The art pillar
1. The Why. Is there a bulletproof reason this story must be told right now, and that you are the only person who can tell it?
2. The Script. Is it undeniable? Are you emotionally invested as a reader, do you keep turning pages, and does the ending land?
3. The People. Do you have the right attachments, cast, characters, and crew to elevate the material?
Sound Business The business pillar
4. Strategy. Do you have a clear packaging and financing strategy, and know how you'll get where you're going?
5. Process. Do you have a predictable production pipeline that keeps you on schedule and on budget?
6. Marketing. Do you know exactly who the audience is, and how to drive their eyeballs from the start through the final cut?
Solid Law The law pillar — your armor
7. Documents. Do you have the core architecture in place: chain of title, crew deal memos with work-for-hire language, and an operating agreement for your LLC?
8. Memorialization. Are those documents bulletproof, with the exact clauses studios and distributors require, or are they barren and empty?
9. Execution. Are they properly signed, safely stored, and easy to pull up the moment an investor or distributor asks?
8Step three: book
0 / 90
Rated: 0 of 9
The booking form asks for this score. Copy it now and paste it into the form.
Booking unlocks after you watch the scan and score all nine areas.
9Short FAQ
